The Staff Mechanical Engineer contributes to the design, fabrication, assembly, testing, control and optimization of various biologically-inspired systems and components. Conducts laboratory research and participates in the efforts of students and fellows in the technical translation area. Responsible for the innovation, evolution, and maintenance of a broad set of engineering systems to facilitate the Institute’s mission, research, and product development efforts. Participates in group design projects as well as initiates and executes individual design efforts. Responsible for the setup and maintenance of core software and mechanical engineering capabilities within the Institute. Participates in writing research proposals, reports, patent applications, presentations and publications, providing critical data, figures or information for grant and patent submissions. Interacts regularly with affiliated Institute faculty. M.S. in engineering is required. Minimum of 5 years of industry experience in research and/or product development is required. Extensive proficiency in software design and development (e.g. : C/C++, Perl, JAVA, Python, etc) is required. Experience writing software in Linux or Unix required.
