Description The main focus of our lab is on the investigation of the development of insulin resistance using cell and small animal models. The primary project of the Research Assistant is to assist in the analysis of insulin signaling in cells and in transgenic and knock-out mouse models. Specific tasks include maintaining cell lines in culture, maintaining the colony of transgenic and knock-out mice (including numbering, tailing, genotyping, breeding and weighing mice, measuring food intake, physiological characterization of mice including blood sampling). Bench laboratory work will include PCR, Western, Southern and Northern blotting, enzyme assays and analysis of cell culture and mouse blood samples. The Research Assistant will coordinate experiments with the rest of the group in the lab and will be responsible for some lab duties. The Research Assistant should be flexible to drive to an off-site Animal Facility using the Joslin Van at least twice a week. Qualifications include: • B.S. in biochemistry, biology, molecular biology or related field. • Some experience with biochemical, molecular and cellular studies. • Previous experience with small animal (mice and rats) work is preferred but not essential. • Valid MA driver’s license with clear driving record.
