| Description |
The Research Assistant in Joslin’s section on Cellular & Molecular Physiology will assist the lab primarily by performing bench work and maintaining mouse colonies.
Responsibilities:
1. Perform bench laboratory work such as RNA and protein isolation, Western blotting, PCR, and preparation of both human and mouse samples for oligonucleotide arrays.
2. Maintain colony of low birth weight mice by breeding and weighing mice, measuring food intake, monitoring response to diabetes prevention medications, and assisting with physiologic testing. Gathering of physiological data from mouse colony and assist with analyses of data.
3. Compiles and presents own data at lab meetings. Interprets and presents relevant journal articles at lab meetings to inform colleagues of relevant techniques, discoveries or other information important to the lab.
4. Ensure that operational needs of the lab are met including ordering supplies, coordinating glassware washing, scheduling repairs, and preparing buffers. Ensure current lab equipment is maintained and/or repaired for optimal performance. Organizes and schedules the freezer defrost. Evaluates price and quality of potential laboratory equipment
Qualifications:
• B.S. in biology, molecular biology or related field.
• 2 years experience, including some experience with recombinant DNA technology.
• Previous experience with animal work is preferred
