Research Assistant to Dr. Alexandra E. Shields, Ph.D., Director of the Center on Genomics, Vulnerable Populations, and Health Disparities at the Mongan Institute for Health Policy at Massachusetts General Hospital & faculty member at Harvard Medical School. Seeking highly motivated candidate with bachelor's degree. Successful applicants must have excellent oral and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Applicants must also have ability to multi-task, work under tight timelines, & interact with senior faculty from diverse disciplines. Familiarity with genomics research a plus. Must be willing to make a 2-year commitment. Start date flexible (Summer 2010). Excellent benefits package and competitive salary commensurate with experience. Research activities will focus on identifying measures of social and environmental exposures especially important for understanding gene-environment interactions that might affect disparities in disease; examining the use of race variables in recent genomics studies; developing projects to track the diffusion of genomic medicine by patient and provider characteristics in large administrative data sets; and other background literature research. Responsibilities include: Conducting background research & literature reviews; drafting & editing reports and correspondence to funding agencies, external organizations, and senior faculty collaborators across many institutions; maintenance of project timelines and schedules; and coordinating/planning meetings and Harvard University-wide workshops; and providing research support to transdisciplinary working groups tackling issues related to leveraging genomics research to generate new insight into health disparities. |
