Stanford University’s Office of Postdoctoral Affairs is reaching out to our network to share an update regarding PRISM, a recruitment initiative designed to support individuals who are interested in pursuing a postdoc at Stanford.

PRISM Application Due Date = 7/26!

Please forward this email and the associated flyer to your community and/or to any graduate students within your networks who are planning to complete a PhD between now and December of 2022. PRISM is an interdisciplinary recruitment initiative. Even so, we especially welcome applications from students who would contribute to adding a more diverse perspective within academia. As we work to diversify the professoriate and advance research in a multitude of fields, your collaboration is greatly appreciated!

What Exactly Is Stanford PRISM?
PRISM (Postdoctoral Recruitment Initiative in Science and Medicine) is an opportunity for late-stage graduate students from broadly diverse backgrounds to explore postdoctoral training at Stanford. PRISM provides an opportunity to interview with faculty mentors, get the inside scoop on postdoctoral training/lab environments at Stanford from current postdocs, and access professional development to score their best postdoc match!

The purpose of this program is to encourage those who might not otherwise consider a postdoctoral position at Stanford to get a first-hand look at whether this institution might truly be a good fit for them. In short, our goal is to match trainees from institutions and organizations across the country with excellent mentors here at Stanford!

Who Is Eligible?
While PRISM is open to all individuals who are expecting to earn a PhD by the end of December 2022, we especially encourage those from backgrounds underrepresented within academia to apply, including communities such as but not limited to: African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, Filipinos, those with disabilities, those from FLI (first gen and/or low income) backgrounds, and those underrepresented on the basis of their gender identity, gender expression, and/or sexual orientation. Individuals with U.S. Citizenship and/or Permanent Residency may be given priority.

How Do You Apply?

Applications consist of an application form (available via the link below), an applicants’ CV, a research statement, a recommendation from your graduate advisor, and the names of up to 6 potential mentors at Stanford.

(Deadline to Apply for Cohort 8 = July 26th, 2021)
Fall 2021 Dates for PRISM Cohort 8 = October 13th-16th, 2021

NOTE: We hope to bring PRISM Cohort 8 to campus (in-person) for a 3-5-night stay on Stanford University’s campus. The goal is for prospective postdocs to use that time to explore the training environment, to meet with faculty, and to get a feel for the community here at Stanford. However, travel will be dependent upon local & federal travel policies at that time… (If we are unable to host candidates in-person, a full complement of recruitment events will be offered virtually.)
