Job Description

This individual will be responsible for executing the strategy for attracting and recruiting a diverse pipeline of early and emerging talent aligned with Vertex’s critical growth and capability needs across the organization. A key part of this role will be to develop and implement strategies at specific target universities and with community organizations that provide pathways for talent into biotech. This individual will work with business leaders, HR business partners, and other key stakeholders to create a plan for universities and community organizations, including securing senior level commitment for time, resources, and focus. Additionally, this individual will manage programs that prepare early and emerging talent for full-time roles, including apprenticeships, workforce development programs, and other flagship and rotational programs.

The role will require a creative thinker and problem solver to develop and cultivate relationships with critical internal and external stakeholders at all levels. This role also requires a responsive, strategic, results driven and customer focused individual. The role will be based in Boston, MA and will report to the Head, Early Career Talent, and be part of the Talent and Inclusion, Diversity & Equity Team.

Responsibilities

Develop new and strengthen existing relationships with university leaders and administration, faculty, career services, student organizations and community organizations to assist in overall insights and identification of a diverse pipeline of top talent.

Implement an “Account Team” model that engages Vertex leaders and hiring managers in building meaningful and sustainable relationships with students and other stakeholders at universities, diversity partner organizations, and community organizations.

Coordinate all events at assigned universities and community organizations in partnership with “account teams”, coordinators, and other engaged Vertex employees.

Attend events and functions to assist in enhancing and amplifying Vertex’s brand as an employer of choice.

Ensure optimal efficiency and scalability of all programs by simplifying and clarifying processes and roles and responsibilities.

Manage select early and emerging talent programs including apprenticeships, workforce development programs, MBA internships, post doc programs, and fellowships – with a focus on conversions to full-time roles.

Consistently track and analyze data to identify trends, track progress against goals, and inform and evolve recruiting strategies.

Act as a champion for early career talent by appropriately and continuously communicating successes and wins throughout the organization to enhance credibility and reputation

Required Skills & Experience

6-8 years’ experience successfully implementing and evolving early and emerging talent strategies in a corporate environment.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively cross-functionally with Senior Leaders, HR Business Partners, and core business functions to promote the value of early and emerging talent programs and deliver recruiting plans aligned to business needs.

Deep knowledge and established relationships across the early and emerging talent ecosystem aligned with Vertex’s strategy and talent needs, including universities, diversity partner organizations, and community organizations.

Demonstrated track record working on and closing multiple open recruiting assignments and achieving hiring goals efficiently and with operational excellence.

Excellent communication and storytelling skills.

Demonstrated ability to leverage data to track program effectiveness and inform strategic decisions.

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Human Resources, Science, or related field of study
