The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute’s Scientific Director leads the premiere biomedical Intramural Research Program established over 70 years ago and is one of the largest at NIH. This organization includes over 60 world-class Principal Investigators in basic, clinical, translational, and population research, 13 Core services, and over 800 research staff and trainees.
Researchers within the NHLBI Intramural Research Program have won international recognition and countless awards for research that is truly game-changing – transformational, bench-to-bedside, first-in-humans science that advances biomedical knowledge including areas related to rare diseases and genetic disorders. The Scientific Director provides executive-level scientific leadership for cutting edge intramural research at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), including development of long-range strategy to guide, and where possible, to integrate basic, translational, clinical and public health research efforts. The Role
DIR is seeking exceptional candidates for the position of Scientific Director, Division of Intramural Research. The Scientific Director provides executive-level scientific leadership for cutting edge intramural research including development of long-range strategy to guide, and where possible, to integrate basic, translational, clinical and public health research efforts. The Scientific Director, working with the NHLBI Director and Clinical Director, also provides executive-level scientific leadership, oversight, and direction to the NHLBI. The ideal candidate has a commitment to inclusive excellence and the energy, enthusiasm, experience and innovative thinking necessary to lead a dynamic and diverse organization. Applicants must possess an M.D. and/or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in the biomedical sciences, have broad knowledge of the biomedical research enterprise and a compelling vision for the future of the fields of heart, lung and blood research, including clinical applications. Ideal candidates must be an experienced leader with a proven ability to provide strong leadership and mentorship needed to support a diverse workforce; demonstrated expertise and a record of accomplishments in basic, translational, population science or clinical research and knowledge of computational sciences.
