Postdoctoral Position
Intramural Research Program
National Institute of Mental Health
Bethesda, Maryland, USA

The PET (positron emission tomography) Radiopharmaceutical Sciences Section of the Molecular Imaging Branch at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Intramural Research Program in Bethesda, Maryland seeks applications for a postdoctoral position. Our lab develops a) novel radiotracers for brain imaging with PET and b) radiochemistry methodology in support of novel PET radiotracer development. As the lead federal agency for research on mental disorders, NIMH is one of the 27 Institutes and Centers that make up the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the largest biomedical research agency in the world. NIH is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Applicants should be within 5 years of having obtained their Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry or a closely related subject and have interest in developing a combination of skills in radiochemistry with short-lived position-emitters (i.e., 11C and 18F), organic/medicinal chemistry, and analytical methods (e.g., HPLC, NMR, LC-MS). Applicants should be able to offer strong initiative and motivation towards gaining experience and productivity in the development of new radioactive probes for brain imaging with PET. The appointment would initially be for up to 2 years and could potentially be extended.

The NIH has a strong and vibrant research community that includes more than 3,000 postdocs. At the NIH, postdocs work in a highly collaborative research environment with leading scientists and clinicians. They share the NIH campus with the largest translational research hospital in the nation.

Send letters of interest by August 31, 2023 outlining experience, CV, and names and contact information for three references to:
