Job Description

Vertex is seeking a talented individual to join our Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics group in Boston, MA.
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Principal Research Associate to support small molecule drug discovery and development. The qualified candidate will work closely with our established in vitro ADME team performing drug transporter, CYP inhibition, CYP induction, and other cell based assays.
The selected individual will work closely with DMPK team members in Boston and across sites to analyze and interpret data which will be presented in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Designs and conducts in vitro drug transporter and CYP inhibition/induction experiments using primary cells and transfected cell lines
Performs and predicts drug-drug interactions mediated by drug transporters and metabolic enzymes by evaluating drug transporter and enzyme
Implements state-of-art technologies in the field of drug transporters and metabolism, requiring hands-on experience in molecular biology and biochemical techniques including cell culture, recombinant DNA technology, and immunohistochemistry in a research-oriented environment.
Experience with analytical techniques such as LC-MS/MS
Performs advanced statistical analysis of experimental data, where appropriate
Conducts independent troubleshooting of routine problems and demonstrates aptitude to troubleshoot advanced issues
Demonstrates knowledge of scientific principles and PK theories
Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

BS or MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences/Biological Sciences/Chemistry plus 3 years of relevant employment experience
5+ years of direct work experience in cell and molecular biology, with strong cell culture expertise
Understanding of analysis and interpretation of complex experimental data with proficiency in problem solving and protocol refinement
Ability to use own judgement to design and execute independent follow up experiments
Must be highly motivated, organized with excellent communication skills (both oral and written), detail oriented, and a good team player
Ability to work in a time sensitive multiple projects environment
