Job Description

We seek a highly motivated candidate to join our Structural Protein Sciences (SPS) group in the Computational and Structural Chemistry (CSC) department. Our group utilizes multidisciplinary approaches to design, express, purify, and characterize protein reagents in support of structure determination efforts that advance our drug discovery pipeline and ultimately help improve the lives of patients.  The candidate will be part of cross-functional teams and collaborate across diverse therapeutic areas. This is a research position that utilizes critical thinking, problem solving, flexibility, and the ability to evaluate new technologies to enable generation and characterization of difficult to express proteins.

CSC is a diverse and inclusive team of protein scientists, structural biologists, biophysicists, biochemists, mass spectrometrists, computational chemists, and cheminformaticians, who employ state of the art capabilities to drive drug design. We are an integral arm of both discovery and process chemistry and collaborate seamlessly with teams across the globe to invent better molecules faster. The successful candidate will join discovery teams to collaboratively invent novel therapeutics and actively engage with the external scientific community to keep the group at the forefront of protein science and structural biology research.

We recognize that the diversity in our team is our strength and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. Successful candidates must demonstrate inclusive behaviors in working with a diverse group of scientists to drive our core mission.

Our Quantitative Sciences team use big data to analyze the safety and efficacy claims of our potential medical breakthroughs. We review the quality and reliability of clinical studies using deep scientific knowledge, statistical analysis and high-quality data to support decision making in clinical trials.

Key responsibilities will include:

Lead SPS efforts in designing constructs, expression screening strategies, purification and characterization of multiple recombinant soluble and membrane protein targets to enable generation and validation of high-quality proteins for structure determination by X-ray crystallography and Cryo-EM

Collaborating with colleagues in structural chemistry, molecular modeling, mass spectrometry, biophysics, and disease biology to design a comprehensive reagent generation strategy

Independently design and perform complex experiments with strong attention to detail and documentation

Partner with CRO’s to guide external protein production activities, including protein expression and purification

Present data at project team and department meetings
