STEP-UP is a 10 week summer research program for college students. The purpose of the STEP-UP Program is to expose underrepresented minority and disadvantaged students to research in the NIDDK mission areas, including diabetes, endocrinology, metabolism, nutrition, obesity, and digestive, liver, urologic, kidney, and hematologic diseases. Our long-term goal is to increase the number of underrepresented minority and disadvantaged students “in the pipeline” who are committed to a career in biomedical, behavioral, clinical, or social science research.

STEP-UP Interns Receive:
Biomedical research experience during a 10 week summer program at any college or university in the USA.
$5,000 Stipend and travel expenses
All expense paid travel to present at the Annual STEP-UP Symposium in Bethesda, MD in July 2020
Opportunity to attend conferences such as ABRCMS and present your project

STEP-UP Applicants Must:
Be US citizen, non-citizen national or legal resident
College student with 3.0 or higher GPA in a STEM major
Individuals from an under-represented racial/ethnic group, with a disability or from a disadvantaged background.
Have a strong interest in Biomedical Research
