Job Description
The Medicinal Chemistry team is seeking an energetic, results-oriented individual. The individual should have a passion for learning, strong communication and organizational skills as well as a sense of creativity and a mind for the technical. This individual will be required to perform synthetic organic chemistry in the laboratory with an evolving ability to work independently.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Synthesis of medicinal chemistry targets within a project
Ability to troubleshoot and optimize reaction sequences based on discussions with their supervisor
Actively participate in discussions and present results in medicinal chemistry meetings
Ability to write-up experimental results and prepare chemistry presentations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in chemistry, preferably organic chemistry
Strong knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry reaction mechanisms and retrosynthetic analysis
Experience in a synthetic organic chemistry laboratory having demonstrated multi-step synthesis, purification and characterization of compounds
PREFERRED QUALIFICAITONS:
Solid mechanistic understanding to perform troubleshooting under the guidance of their supervisor
Demonstration of independence in the laboratory
Knowledge of operation of basic instruments (NMR, MS, automated chromatography)
Relevant laboratory experience in pharmaceutical industry through internships or coop placements (0-3 years)
